Making a Backup (Exporting)

To make a backup of your character, or to share a character with someone else using HMK Toolkit, you can export it as a json file. Simply select the character and press the JSON button at the top of the window and select a folder in which to save the file.

It's a good idea to make regular backups of all your characters in the same location.

Restoring (Importing)

To restore a character, or import a character that someone shared with you, you first go to the settings and press the Import Character button. Navigate to the character file you wish to import and press 'Open.' The character will appear in the sidebar under 'Characters.'

Save as Text

You can also save the character in a text format. The TXT button creates a file in the Download folder. The text file is best viewed in monospace font. There is a Setting to add more skill information to the text file.

The normal text file includes only the skill base and the ML of skills.

When "Extended Skill Info" is check the output includes much more information, including the attributes for the skill base, the default skill multiplier, and the number of development points and the skill development roll points attributed to each skill.

Note that the file is saved in the Download folder with the character's name. If a file already exist with the same name, it will be replaced with the new one.

Save as PDF

The best way to share a character with someone else is by creating a PDF. Simply select the character and press the PDF button. This creates a two-page PDF exactly as it appears in HMK Toolkit. It is usually a good idea to open the armour articles list before exporting, so that this is available in the PDF.
